Latesha White-Anderson

Latesha White-Anderson is currently a substation electrician with MetroNorth Railroad. She has over 22 years of experience as a journey-person electrician within the IBEW Local 3. Her mother, a Sheet Metal Mechanic with Local 28, was instrumental in her decision to pursue a career in construction after college. Latesha earned two bachelor's degrees, one in English in 1995 and another in Labor Studies in 2002. Ms. White-Anderson was an Army Reservist employed as a Legal Specialist for over two years before giving birth to her daughter in 1998. After the birth of her daughter with new responsibilities on her shoulders, she realized that the opportunity for a more lucrative career, surprisingly, could be found within construction.

As an electrician with Local 3, Latesha successfully forged a spot within the middle class. In addition, her career provided her family with home ownership, substantial medical and retirement benefits, and, most importantly, time off from work to spend significant time with her daughter.

In 2016 she completed a two-year program for Project Management at the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York and a Department of Buildings (DOB) Site Safety Specialist program. This knowledge of the trades, coupled with the remembrance of little information or opportunity afforded to her as a young person regarding careers beyond the college path, motivated her to create a program for young persons. This program would provide much-needed insight into all jobs that do not require college degrees and offer outstanding wages, benefits, health insurance, and a solid entrance into the middle class. She is passionate about exploring all the paths to a fulfilling, successful career so our children will know how to make their best choices.
