Crystal Batson

Crystal L. Stewart-Batson was formerly employed as a Police Communications Technician for the New York City Police Department and Public Safety Dispatcher for the City of Yonkers. Her passion for assisting people in crisis stemmed from her past interactions with social workers and others in the human services field. In July 2016, Crystal suffered a stroke and was forced to retire due to her diagnosis of global Aphasia. Aphasia affected her ability to speak, comprehend and write. With the assistance of speech, occupational and music therapy, Crystal regained her ability to communicate effectively. Crystal is exceptionally grateful for the alliances she formed at Adler Aphasia Center, where her life changed for the better.  Where she proudly became a Board Member.

Additionally, Crystal was appointed by the Rockland Executive, Ed Day, to the Rockland County Disability Council. She used her personal story to inspire and encourage those with disabilities. Crystal continued to dedicate her time to helping those in need and creating platforms for people who needed support. She later became a part of the National Alliance for Mental Illness for Rockland County (NAMI). After a nationwide search, she was chosen to be one of seven fellows in The Ladies of Hope Ministries, Pathways 4 Equity Career Fellowship, Cohort 1. Crystal’s perseverance under challenging situations manifests in her positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and detail-oriented persona. Her dedication to a team lends truth to her being a leader and an excellent communicator. She thrives on doing what is right to help others. Ms. Batson has used her life experience to teach others that anything is possible when you believe.
